Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This scheme provides considerable financial assistance to people living with mental health problems, allowing them greater access to psychologists and providing more affordable mental healthcare.
Eligible clients can receive:
• A rebate of $84.80 per session with a General Psychologist
• A rebate of $124.50 per session with a Clinical Psychologist
• 10 individual counselling sessions in a calendar year (1 January - 31 December). Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first 6 sessions.
• 10 group therapy sessions in a calendar year
To access the Medicare Rebate, you need your GP to complete a detailed mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you to a psychologist.
You must obtain your GP referral prior to your first appointment in order to receive Medicare rebates.
After payment of the fee for general counselling we can process the rebate on the spot to a debit card, for the rebate amount of $84.80 - $124.50.
Please note that a cancellation policy applies to all appointments - both individual and group sessions. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice will incur a cancellation fee. Please see Fees page for further details. Medicare will not reimburse for missed appointments.
